A Young City Within Historic Walls
About 26 kilometers east of Stuttgart lies Schorndorf, known as the “Daimler City,” whose historic old town—with its magnificent half-timbered houses and picturesque market square—is considered one of the most beautiful in Germany. As you stroll through the narrow streets, past cafés and boutiques, history is all around you: Gottlieb Daimler’s birthplace on Höllengasse and the legacy of the courageous Barbara Künkelin invite you on a journey through time. Particularly worth seeing are the striking “Haus am Gumpbrunnen” from 1685 on Römmelgasse and the collegiate church with its ornate Renaissance pulpit.

The historic Schorndorf–Welzheim railway line impresses with its viaducts and rides on original steam and diesel locomotives through the Swabian Forest.
